With a humble beginning in the year 1947 with about 100 students and 11 teachers, Virudhunagar Hindu Nadars' Senthikumara Nadar College has now grown into a premier institution of higher education and research in this educationally backward region of Tamilnadu. The traverse of the institution for the last Seventy Four years has been an eventful one crossing numerous barricades, smoothing its pathways and achieving enviable milestones. In its mission to empower the rural youth in their personal and academic growth, the college constantly reviews and replenishes its educational endeavour, keeping in mind the arid and deplorable areas to which vast majority of the students belong to. The learning environment of the campus is very congenial and the class rooms are student centric. The institute has been ranked 49th in the NIRF-2022 ranking and has been accredited with ‘A’ Grade by NAAC continuously for the third time.
Star College Scheme has been initiated by Department of Biotechnology (DBT) in 2008 to support colleges and universities offering undergraduate education to improve science teaching across the country. DBT is committed to the values of i) Pursuit of excellence ii) Academic and intellectual freedom iii) Creativity and innovation iv) Diversity v) Cooperation and Communication & vi) accountability. DBT has therefore, launched a scheme for improving critical thinking and 'hands on' experimental work at undergraduate (college) level in sciences. It is expected to encourage, more students to take up higher education in science.
V.H.N.Senthikumara Nadar college has been selected under the DBT -STAR College Scheme “Strengthening of support” category by the Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi in 2020. The funds under Star College scheme was awarded in April, 2020. The 1st Instalment was released in August, 2020. DBT extends financial assistance under Star College Scheme to the following Science departments.
